First Day of Fall. . .

Happy first day of fall. . .today, not yesterday. Darn Google for putting up their first day of fall graphic yesterday and confusing me!

We celebrated in style.

After the girls got home from school we did a little craft project: Fall place mats. We have one plastic place mat that the girls fight over so we solved that problem and had fun kicking off fall.

Gather some fall colored leaves.

Arrange them on 12X12 card stock. Embellish with colored paper and sticker letters.

Peel back the paper on the clear adhesive plastic and lay it face down--you're less likely to get wrinkles on the front this way. Then flip it over and apply the adhesive to the back.

(I made mine square and then Hannah got the brilliant idea to line leaves up the side in the clear self adhesive laminate so we weren't wasting it--plus it made them a nice rectangular shape. )

Voila! Lovely place mats.

Of course our efforts made us hungry so we had to try another fun fall dessert (After a dinner of homemade chili and cornbread)

Apple Blackberry Crumble:

Layer your sliced apples (3-4) in the bottom of a baking dish with three cups of blackberries.

Sprinkle 1/4 cup of brown sugar on top.

Chop and sprinkle a teaspoon of crystallized ginger over top. Then heat the oven to 350 and put the pan in there to precook your fruit while you prepare the crumble for the top.

In a bowl mix 1 cup of flour, 1/2 cup brown sugar, 1/4 cup refined bakers sugar, and 1 teaspoon of cinnamon.

Melt 2/3 cup of butter and mix. . .

. . .until you have a course crumbly texture.

Sprinkle over fruit and bake for 30 minutes.

Enjoy! I like this better than the cobbler I made a few weeks ago. If you are feeling adventurous you can add chopped almonds to the crumble--I would have but I was out.

Oh yummy.

I have a whole freezer full of blackberries. I think I found a home for them now!

THANKS!

Seriously...either you have more time in the day than I do, or I am lacking in the planning department! Can I hire you to be my chef? I would pay good money for your expertise!

Love the placemat idea!!
