A Child's Logic. . .

My children are pretty logical girls and sometimes they can argue a case so well, I am tempted to let them win on wit alone. But sometimes they miss the point and conversations like the following occur. Let me just note that I often say "Hurry up the bus is leaving!" in reference to my car, when we are headed somewhere.

This morning before swim lessons - right after I told the girls to get in the car:

H: Sig, hurry before the seats are gone.
S: What?
H: Hurry before the seats are gone.
S: Huh?
H: The seats, gone.
S: What seats?
H: The car seats!
S: What car seats?
H: The seats in the car, you know the ones you have sat on a thousand times! Sheesh!
S: (confused silence) Are they comfortable?
H: (Sigh of exasperation - clearly giving up on the analogy) You should know, you have sat in them before.

I find it amusing that she assumed Sig was confused about the seats, not why they would be "gone". . .as in filled up, like on an actual bus! Somewhere along in there the point got lost. Hee, Hee. Sure I could have stepped in and explained, but sometimes it is just more amusing to let them figure it out!

I don't know--she might be on to something. On occassion I look back and see that my seats are indeed full---full of kids' friends that I had no idea were with us :)!
