Summer Fever . . .

. . .You know, that feeling you get at the end of the school year when the weather is warm and the sunshine is calling? As a student you can't wait to get out of the classroom and into the great outdoors. As a parent I dread the thought of kids home all day, but even that cannot overshadow the excitement of summer and less scheduled lives. When I think of summer I think of hammocks and lemonade, frivolous reading and trips to the beach, or grandma's house. . . .

The east coast is having a heatwave, the Midwest is flooding and the Southwest is so dry it is under fire advisory. Here . . .? 5o degrees and pouring on the 10th of June?! AND snow in the mountains -- LOTS of snow (Rob is currently driving in it!). Not to mention, I am having a hard time adjusting to this school district's schedule. The kids aren't out of school until next week.

And just to add insult to injury, Hannah had her end of school year family picnic today at school. . . .

Needless to say, it was moved indoors to get out of the downpour. Nothing like a picnic on a cafeteria table--in a turtleneck sweater! Even the rain did not stop the kids from running out to play on the playground after lunch, dragging me along. And really, I wouldn't have minded the rain nearly so much if it had been, say, twenty degrees warmer.

On Friday Signe has her class picnic at Lewis Park. I am praying for sun. Am I the only one whose summer fever is directly reliant upon actually seeing the sun?

I am so ready for some sun! Supposedly it was supposed to be warm this weekend (starting today) but I have yet to see any thing close to sun rays.
