Party or Project?

Pop Quiz

It is a holiday and you have time off work.  Do you:

a.)  go on vacation

b.) throw a party

c.) relax, sleep in and be lazy

d.) start a house project. . . say, tear out your carpet and start laying hardwood

Having lived away from family since we were married nearly 12 years ago, Rob and I have been those kind of people who, d.) start a project.  Until this year we rarely (never) went on vacation.  We occasionally went home to Idaho to see family.  And we never relaxed and slept in.

Over the last year we have learned to appreciate sleeping in (we have made it to eight at least half a dozen times), and we have learned how to take a proper family vacation.  All really good things. . . but I missed the projects.  We bought this house with projects in mind. . . many projects.  And we have done a few small things here and there: we have painted most of the rooms, replaced most of the hardware on the doors, replaced most of the lighting, bought and stained a new hardwood front door, and done lots of landscaping (not that you would really know due to the large amount left to be done).  But we have yet to redo the hardwood floors, remodel the kitchen, or bathrooms or any of the other various but plentiful projects on our to do list.

Until this week.

Shortly after we moved here our dog chewed the carpet up in the doorway to our office. . . just off the entryway.  Then a couple months ago he chewed up a pen inches from the torn carpet.  Every person who enters our house see it.

The other day Rob stood looking at it and said, "That's it!  I'm tearing apart the office and laying hardwood right now."

It feels good to be back.

What are you doing with your holiday?
