My girls have come to expect the blue ice cream truck and wait impatiently each week for it to arrive. Some weeks they wait for hours in hopes that it is just late and go in disappointed.
I won't lie to you. I am waiting right there with them. You see, I love the ice cream truck. I don't even have to actually purchase any of the frozen delights the truck has to offer. I just love to hear the cheery tune and see the brightly painted jeep with it's side plastered with images of sticky goodness.
I grew up in the country. Ice cream trucks were rare indeed. In fact, I have only one memory of the ice cream truck ever showing up near my house. I ran to the street and flagged down the driver. I did not even take time to grab my cash. I was an excited young girl, maybe seven or eight, thrilled to finally have my first encounter with the legendary Ice Cream Man.
After assuring the man I would just run inside and grab some money I sprinted away in anticipation, only to return and find he had gone. I was devastated. He never came by again.
So when I hear the distant tinkling notes of Music Box Dancer I run, not walk, to gather my girls--and some cash-- and head for the curb. And I bring my camera. Because I want them to enjoy the simplest pleasure of summer. . . and I want it documented so we can look back later, when the rain commences, or the girls are too old to care, and enjoy it all over again.

Cute pics! Hope you guys are having fun. See you Friday or Saturday!
Mentionings of Blizzards, pictures of the ice cream truck----do you not know that I try not to eat after 8 pm and ice cream is my most favorite ANYTHING :)?!
I love the pictures though. We keep hearing the music around here, but haven't actually SEEN the truck. We do get the Schwann's man though----the very overpriced Schwann's man.....
Hey! Are you here? If so---give me a call! Look me up in whitepages. com--I know I'm there. And then I won't have to publish my number for all the world to see :)
I can't believe the ice cream man left! HOW RUDE!!! Hope ya'll are having a good time on your trip! I'm back home trying to decide what color to paint my front door!!
The ice cream man comes by everyday here in Las Vegas. It actually slows down and almost stops in front of my house waiting for my kids to run outside. The mad dash that they make to find money as soon as they hear the music is hilarious! Even if we have ice cream or popsicles in the freezer, they want what he has. I wanted to tell you that I didn't mean anything negative by saying you and your husband look young in your wedding picture. I was a young bride myself, and it's working great for us too. You both just have those great genes!!
I love the ice cream truck, too! We have one around here every blue moon but when we head to the Outer Banks there is the same Russian guy that comes by in his truck everyday at 4:15. Who cares if we are going to be eating dinner in about 2 hours...we still get it. Just because. And I am the one running out the door flagging him down. Just because.
